Life's sweet....
It's now the beginning of August and the bees have been doing what bees do. One hive is doing really well and the other is struggling. The hive that was doing well was doing too well and was making a bunch of queen cells, we think because they were getting ready to swarm/split on their own.
Cath needed to juggle some things around so she ended up bringing back one frame of honey as she needed to make space in one of the hives.
We simply scraped off the comb and honey into a 5 gallon (it ended up being about a liter of honey....I know I'm mixing units but Canadians are weird that way). We sqeezed the honey out of the comb, through a strainer and into little mason jars. J will do up some lables for them later.
Some of the wax was pretty gross and other parts was really nice. We melted it down in a double boiler setup and purified the wax. From all the bits of wax we had we ended up with two nice little hand soap sized loafs...and about the same again amount of "dirty wax" that needs more purification.
