Stop asking me to hold this apple for you....
We are now armed and accidentally dangerous!
We went to Bass Pro and John, the gentleman at the archery desk, set us up with a traditional archery setup for Cath and the girls. While I have shot crossbows and compound bows we were looking for something quiet and relatively easy for the girls to get started into archery. They had shot a bit at various camps and festivals/fairs and were very excited about it. I think that the girls had medieval longbows in mind!
John set us up with a PSE Razorback take down recurve bow, stringing rope, shooting gloves, quiver and a bunch of arrows. He took his time to show everyone how to string/unstring the bow, how to adjust the brace height, he fit the nocking point and related a bunch of general tips and how to's.
We started out at about 5 paces...quickly learned how to find arrows in the grass...and then moved back to 10 and then 15 paces. Once I showed the girls how to square up to the target and a couple of tips about holding/releasing the string they were off to the races!
For anyone looking at getting into archery...this is a great way to do it. One thing I would say is to get extra arrows! The fletching of the "cheaper" arrows rip off pretty quickly and while I'm ok with fixing them after a weekend of multiple archers taking turns there aren't many of the original 9 arrows that have made it through unscathed.
