Hi.

Welcome to my blog (obviously a work in progress!) where I'm capturing our adventures at Wildwood. Hope you have a nice stay!

Moving day.....

Moving day.....

While the kids read, painted and in general ate all the food...and I worked on finishing the outhouse (nearly almost just about done soon...)....Cath had her second bee keeping class at Honey Pie.  She met up with us at Wildwood at the end of the day with a box-o-bees in the backseat!  We had fretted about the weather since earlier this week had it raining and thunderstorming for the afternoon...but it turned out to be really sunny/warm and a nice cool breeze.

The nuc box had 5 frames crammed full of bees.  Cath and M got all suited up and moved each frame into the hive.  We never did spot the queen...a bit nerve racking is an understatement.  Excess wax was cleaned up and there was a bit of fiddling to get things transferred and spaced out.

All in all the bees seemed to be figuring out what was going on, flying about to get oriented and were not aggressive at all.  Near to the end they seemed to be more active, so we figured that was enough and finished up.

We collected the extra wax and all had a finger tip taste of the honey.  Neither M nor I were stung but Cath was stung once when she was cleaning up (no gloves) and picked up a piece of wax that had a bee on it.

We'll check back next week to see how they are doing.  Cath was pretty nervous to leave them.

Really, really neat!
